Village for Scholars Luncheon
2025 Application Window: Open - February 8th 2025. Submission Deadline - Summer 2025
The Village for Scholars committee is requesting your assistance in recruiting underserved and under resourced males between the ages 14-19 to participate in our Village for Scholars Initiative.
This initiative hopes to inspire academic excellence and community leadership to young Black Males in the 5-county area of Southeastern North Carolina. It is in conjunction with NC Project LEAD and is functioned under the Humanities and Arts, Socioeconomic Sub-Committees. The initiative, over the next 5 years, plans to bring 50 rural and urban at-risk African American males from 14-19 years of age and 50 adult mentors together to create a village of caring, nurturing, and informed adults to help meet these students' needs.
This ‘Village of Mentors’ will produce the Blueprint Forums for Healthy Youth Development Design. Our Mission is to strengthen and empower African American young men to create positive social changes with the support of strong networks. We will train these students to embrace the need for positive community leadership. The objective is for these young men to learn how to utilize their inner talents and goals and to create positive pathways to facilitate successful critical thinking.
In 2017, we formed our first class. Six scholars each received a $1000 scholarship. We are now ready to begin Class 2025! THE VILLAGE Scholar’s Kick –Off date is February 8th, 2025
There will be 4 workshops available for our young Scholars. They are: Civic Engagement; Navigating your Finances; What’s your Career Choice?; What‘s STEAM got to do with It?
We expect our Participants to commit to attend all 4 workshops by verbally committing to complete the program, being on time for workshops, respecting others, and expectation to succeed. We expect the Participant and Parent(s) to grow their village by a minimum of 10 villagers (supporters).
What is a Supporter?
A Patron Supporter is a $25 donor, they will receive recognition at the Village Scholar’s Breakfast. Each scholar is asked to provide at least 10 Patrons.
Another class of partnership is Collaborating Partner - $1000 Scholarship Award. The Partners will receive recognition at the Village Scholar’s Breakfast and Recognition at the Annual “White Lotus Leadership Awards Gala” in September.
